One of the huge reasons people choose to work from home is that they have children that they don’t want to put in daycare. Pam Sargant, who describes herself as artist/writer/singer/songwriter makes some wonderful suggestions on how to combine working with young children in her blog post on the subject. I wanted to add one more suggestion. If you have to be on the telephone as part of your job, you will know how hard it is to keep your child quiet for the duration of the call. So I recommend you keep a box of special toys that you call the telephone box. Then when the ‘phone rings you can whip the box out and because it is special it should keep your child quiet during the call. Go through the rules of the box beforehand – have consequences for bad behavior that you may not be able to deal with during the call.
