Anchor text is simply the words that you see on the webpage for a link. If you have ever seen Click here then that is a commonly used anchor text. Google and other search engines put value on anchor text in their algorithm because keywords are regularly used as a way to indicate what is being linked to. So for instance if I was to link to the my parent coaching website I would do it like this - Parenting coach. Anchor text is very easily created in wordpress just by highlighting the text and then pressing the link button and inputting the required url.
If when linking to a site you use the keywords relevant for that site you not only increase usability for your readers by letting them know what to expect from the linked to site but you also increase the amount of link-love(the power of your link to their site).
Make sure also to think carefully about keywords when linking to other pages on your site so you can also gain from the power of anchor text.

Thank you so much for sharing. I had no clue I kept hearing it but never got it but you helped clear it up and made it easier to understand. Good news is I have been using them since the box was there to fill out so I figured why not.
