Twitter

http://www.twitterholic.com/
- who are the big players in Twitter? Shows the top 100 Tweeters by number of followers.
http://twitterbuzz.com/ shows you what people are linking to in their tweets.
http://dossy.org/twitter/karma/ - sorts your followers and those you follow into different groups such as those who follow you but you do not follow back
http://twerpscan.com/ - highlights the people whose followers/followed ratio is out of whack enough that it could indicate a spammer.
http://search.twitter.com allows you to track keywords through Twitter conversations

N.B. Some of these ask for your Twitter password so I recommend that you change your password to a temporary one first and then change it back after running these tools.

There is a book being written on Twitter by Warren Whitlock and Deb Micek - more info here http://www.twitterhandbook.com/

LinkedIn

This was exactly the question that I asked when I joined LinkedIn.

Facebook

My favorite expert on Facebook, Mari Smith will be appearing on my BTR show on Friday October 10th at noon EST. In the meantime I highly recommend subscribing to her Facebook blog

I use LinkedIn and get job offers and connections through it regularly. But I don’t get twitter, I have an account, don’t see how it really works and how its useful. I guess you have to know alot of people on twitter for it to be useful.
I don’t really use facebook or myspace either. I use SocialSpark for blog social networking though.

I have been using twitter and LinkedIn as a key part of my online networking. Your right in a way, most social networking sites are great if you have alot of friends or followers . Is simply ” A number game” but people build it from scratch and so should you. I’ve seen the essence now with tons of traffic to my blog and site.
