Today, Lynn Terry blogged about how to make a profit in a niche that you are neither passionate about or know a lot about so prompting me to blog about it.
I have heard Lynn talk about doing what you are passionate about and we definitely agree that it is the best way to go but it is interesting to look at how to make money in a niche you are not passionate about and Lynn explains step by step how to go about that.
My take on it is that you should always look to include as much as possible those things that you are passionate about. Think about all the things you really enjoy and work out how to make them part of your marketing strategy and outsource what is not appealing to you. I asked Lynn at her last webinar which marketing activity she found the most fun and she answered immediately that it was writing. Luckily for her, there are many different ways to incorporate writing into marketing - blog posts, article writing and sales letters being 3 effective strategies. I, on the other hand find writing anything longer than a blog post a chore so I rely on networking as my main marketing strategy - I attend online networking events, I run and am part of various Skype rooms and I am a member of several Social Networking events. If you love to talk, then podcasts and internet radio shows would be ideal outlets for you. Focus on the fun.
In this way you can still bring to bear the Power of Passion to whatever project you are involved in.
So what marketing activity can you get passionate about? Please feel free to comment.
