Choosing a niche:
Mari Smith has been tremendously successful by micro-niching herself as THE Facebook expert. Her advice for choosing a niche is as follows:
1. Choose a niche that you are a) passionate about; b) know a lot about or can learn a lot about; c) monetizeable (e.g. there is a proven track record of people spending money on products and services related to the niche)
2. Stay consistent with your message – be careful about changing your expertise according to the particular group you are networking with.
She also recommended the following book:
Advantages of Facebook:
1. Allows the entrepreneur to slowly grow a social network by making quality contacts.
2. The entrepreneur is seen as current and in the know.More and more a presence on the more respected social networks is expected.
3. Facebook is growing so quickly that it is very likely that any target market will be represented with Facebook.
4. Facebook allows both a personal profile and more business oriented pages thereby allowing networking on all levels.
5. Open source accessibility (ie anyone can write one) provide thousands of applications and although many of these are more about fun than business, there are some very powerful applications (or apps) out there. Tomorrow I will be listing Mari Smith’s recommended list.
6. Facebook has a clean uncluttered interface that is very well suited to business. Contact information is easy to find.
7. New design includes many opportunities for comments which provides the two way communication so vital in the Web 2.0 world.
