I know it’s corny and the failure rate is high but I still love setting a New Year’s resolution. This year I have decided to pay more attention, to be more actively involved in my life, to stop making so many decisions by default. I want to be aware of everything I eat rather than distracting myself with the television or a book. I want to be more aware of how I spend my time and of how I interact with other people. I want to be present more with my children – I am almost always here but how often do they get my full undivided attention?
I want to be a deliberate creator, molding my life exactly how I want it to be rather than responding to the things that are thrown my way.
I want to notice my thoughts more and make sure I only dwell on the things that are for my highest good. I want to be more aware of who I really am.
This is the loftiest resolution I have ever set myself but I know the time is right.
What are YOUR New Year’s Resolutions?

Katherine,
I liked the fact that you are honest about what your new year’s resolution is this year and it is all about bettering yourself and your life. Being IN your life and not just going through “the motions”. I don’t like to make resolutions anymore. I have learned over the last year that as long as I am being deliberate in my actions each day and setting smaller goals for myself…then I don’t set myself up for disappointment. I notice by having a positive mindset, writing the goals I have set for each day (only 5), I accomplish those things and that creates accomplishment for me. For me this year, I have set a few slightly bigger goals…more long term (by the end of Jan or in 3 months). Such things as I am going to workout each day for 30 min for 30 days. And I am going to concentrate and work towards increasing my client base by 1/3 in 90 days.
In response to your new years resolution I would like to say this…it is always great to look at yourself and want to improve it. We ALL can do that more. I think I could also be more of an active listener with my daugther as well. One way I have chosen to do that is by changing my office hours so that it will accomodate her school schedule more. So I am not feeling like I have to struggle to work and be there for her at the same time.
Anyway, thanks Katherine for this post. Great discussion!

Katherine: You have been a great inspiration for me. Keep up the positive thoughts that you send our way in our group on Skype. My resoltion for this year is my move back to San Francisco and to concentrate on building my Technology business in the Bay Area and to fulfill my mission statement which is to “Connect People and Change Lives”. Happy 2008 to you.
