Someone asked recently what was the single most important thing to make a successful coaching business (and this applies to any business). The simple answer is marketing – whether that is word of mouth, leveraging an existing network or applying online marketing strategies. It is often a shock to new business owners, particularly those in the service industries that they will have to spend the majority of their time in the beginning marketing, not providing the service that is their passion. I know when I first started out, I had the “build it and they will come” attitude – forgive my cluelessness but I am a former teacher and knew nothing at that point about starting a business! You may be the best coach or realtor in the world, your widgets might be the best thing since sliced bread but if noone knows about you then you have no business.
So make peace with marketing now. It is not a dirty word, nor is it slimy or manipulative – some marketers are but you can choose to take a totally different path. Then look at your skills and passions to find the pieces of marketing that you could really enjoy doing. The more pleasure you get from the activity means not only the motivation will be easy but also your potential customers will pick up on your passion.
All these activities are marketing activities that will really boost your customer base.
Come find out more at noon EST today at my Passion Project Radio Show where I will be talking to podcasting expert Patrysha Korchinski and share with us what marketing you really enjoy doing – inspire our listeners with your passionate marketing ideas!.
